Front-End Web Development
Project Overview
The EM Capstone project spanned ten months, starting in the Summer of 2022 and concluding in the Spring of 2023. I collaborated on this project with classmates Maya Giro and Jordan McGuire. The initial concept for our capstone emerged during our Project Management course. We thoroughly researched and prototyped three original ideas before deciding to focus on renovating the Royal Change fitness brand’s website (in partnership with Sydney Cummings Houdyshell).
In the Fall of 2022, we began working on the alpha version of our project during the EM (Emerging Media) Workshop course. This phase involved connecting with our client and developing a wireframe and style guide. The beta version of the website concentrated on implementing content, copy, plugin functionalities, and style guidelines into our domain. We challenged ourselves by utilizing custom code, API keys, new plugins, and design techniques on our WordPress host.
In the final semester of my master’s program and capstone journey during the Spring of 2023, my team and I conducted user testing on our beta site. Based on the results of these tests, we made constructive revisions to develop our 1.0 (final) version of the site. This version was showcased at the New Media Institute’s Emerge event, which highlighted all the graduate students’ capstone projects.
My specific responsibilities for this project encompassed the development of the “Home,” “About,” and “Free Workouts” pages. Additionally, I engaged in user research and testing, designed the project poster, edited the project trailer, established the font system, and assisted in the redesign of the new logo.
A more in-depth synopsis of the full project can be read in the Medium journal below.
